RealTalk With VH1’s White Rapper Show Contestant Persia

Persia took the time to talk with RealTalkNY about the VH1 White Rapper show and her career. Persia seems like a real cool chick, and you can tell on she was keeping it real while on he show. With her swagger being her biggest asset, she couldn’t make it to the end do to problems memorizing rhymes. With time and practice, who knows what lies ahead for Persia…

Latest Songs by Persia, and her Myspace page.

Persia- Snitch

Persia- So That Bitch

RTNY: Where you grew up?

Persia: I grew up in Rockaway, Far Rock.

RTNY: How was your childhood?

Persia: Childhood was good, same like anyone else from Far Rock, Brooklyn, anywhere else in New York.

RTNY: When did you first start rapping?

Persia: I started rapping November of 2006.

RTNY: You weren’t rapping at an earlier age?

Persia: I mean, I was rapping along to the radio, but nothing really too original.

RTNY: So You got serious in November?

Persia: I’ve been writing since I was younger, like songs and rhymes, but I never put my all into it. First when I started my friend was like, “you go to work on your flow.” It took me a few months but I got it.

RTNY: Who were your influences?

Persia: I’m an MOP head to the death, so I have to say them first. People like Rakim, Kane a little bit of everybody growing up.

RTNY: How did you hear about the VH1 Show?

Persia: I was on craigslist looking for shows, cause I just started spitting. I was looking for anybody to tell me how I sounded. So I ran across an ad looking for rappers for a reality show, so I hit that up.

RTNY: Were the Auditions Packed?

Persia: It was a lot of people matter of fact. It was a lot of funny looking people, though. Like comedians looking for exposure, just really, really, weird people.

RTNY: After your audition were you confident you made the cut?

Persia: After kind of seeing everybody else that was there, I went home and pretty much packed my bags, and was like, “Yo I’m out.” People was like you got picked?, I was like nah, but I’m gonna get picked.

RTNY: When you first got to the show, did you feel like you were going to take the grand prize?

Persia: Yea, I showed up with a crown on with a winner  chain, all that.

RTNY: Did you feel that any MCs on the show were on your level?

Persia: I thought they were good rappers, and don’t really think there was anybody on my level though. As far as like the whole package, like really having love for Hip Hop. Like growing up in it, I think a lot of people that were there embrace Hip Hop, but I was embraced by Hip Hop.

RTNY: How did you feel about the other female rappers?

Persia:(Phone got disconnected & recorder came off, so this is to the best of my recollection) I got respect for G-Child. She is a Vanilla Ice fan, and we were getting at her for it, but she stuck to her guns. Misfit was a groupie, trying to get by on her looks more than skills.

RTNY: How do you feel about John Brown?

Persia: John Brown can suck a dick. I think he’s more of a ghostwriter. For you to come in the industry and claim you street, you doing street rap, its not true.

RTNY:How did you feel about the challenges, like the Thug Challenge?

Persia: The Thug Challenge, You know how I feel about the Thug Challenge. They tried to kill the fat girl, that’s what that was. I felt a lot of them had nothing to do with Hip Hop. I didn’t realize it until that challenge. Sulle said it earlier on, “This doesn’t got nothing to do with Hip Hop.” But since I won, I was like what you mean? But at the end I was like, this really does have nothing to do with Hip Hop. I guess you got to take the good with the bad.

RTNY: Did the show help your career?

Persia: It definitely helped my career. Before the show and didn’t even know this could be a career for me. I had just started, I didn’t know what I was doing, I didn’t know what a bar was, none of that. I had never been in a studio, did a show, so after that I came out real cocky. With a lot of fans, a lot of supporters, so basically your fans make you. The show gave me what I needed to make it.

RTNY: So now that the show in near it’s end, what’s next for you?

Persia: I got my mixtape dropping next week. Until my contract is up, I can’t really do too much. So I’m just staying with the show, trying to get around, get out to the different states. Staying in touch with my fans, staying in the street.

RTNY: Anything you want to say to the fans out there?

Persia: My fans know I love them, I talk to them everyday on Myspace. As long as they keep coming out supporting, I will keep giving them what they want.

RTNY: Thanks for taking the time to take to us, best of luck.

I heard there’s a country club in Far Rockaway, who’s hood now ha ha! She’s only been rhyming since late ‘06 c’mon, thats a joke, obviously more experience is needed to make an album, which she’ll most likely get only because she was on T.V. Her one any only verse she kicked repeatedly was O.K. but it got old after the second, third, and fourth time I heard it on the show. Read JB’s interview on this site, he’s a hell of a lot smarter and more creative than most people think.
